At the enquiry by the committee investigating the cause and extent of unemployment .among watersiders, a statement submitted by the unemployment insurance branch of the Labour Department shows that from October of last year to March of this year there has been an average of 610 applications in a month for unemployment insurance from watersiders. The payment amounted to £531 per month.
