DASTARDLY OUTRAGE.
CANADIAN PACIIFC RAILWAY. SEVERAL KILLED. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT Received Nov. 1, 1.30 p.m OTTAWA, Oct. 31. Someone planted a time bomb in a Canadian. Placifie sleeping car, crossing British Columbia yesternight, when it exploded in the early morning. Six passengers were killed and the train was wrecked. Police investigation showed that the bomb was directed against Peter Veregin, who was among those killed. Another victim was a member of the Provincial Legislature, and others were prominent people. Veregin -was seventy years of age, and pne of the most picturesque figures in Western Canada, A quarter of a. century ago he came from Europe, leading a colony of seventy thousand Doukhobors, who were driven out from Southern Russia, They settled first on the prairie lands in Manitoba and Saskatchewan, but had much difficulty with the authorities, because of their proclivity for marching nude through the countryside, whenever they had a grievance against the Government. Ten years ago- they removed into the fruit-growing districts of British Columbia. and beoame excellent settlers. Veregin was literally their king, but recently lost his hold younger leaders. The police believe that ope of these planted the bomb in a valise, which very 'effectively removed him.
