ESTIMATES APPROA r ED. AIINISTER’S CONCENTRATION POLICY. NINE LINES UNDER CONSTRUCTION. (By Telegraph.—Special to the Star). WELLINGTON, Nov. 1. The Public Works Estimates were discussed and approved by the House of Representatives to-niglit. The Alinister of Works, replying at- the end of a lengthy and very general debate, contended that the concentration policy had been thoroughly carried out. He had reduced the number. c.f lines under construction from 30 to 9. He.'did. not know of one political line. Air Wilford ;■-What about the line from tlie AVairoa River to Dargaville? Mr Coates replied that this railway was recommended by two commissions and bv the department, not only as being able to „pay interest, but to connect up 30 miles of isolated railway. He had to admit that the Man am branch line in Taranaki should never have been started, and should not-have been finished. He had either to complete it or pull up the line. It was being completed, and he licped it would lie all right.
