ALLEGED THEFT.

TWENTY-ONE CHARGES. YOUNG MEN ARRESTED. Smart work by the South Taranaki police yesterday resulted in the arrest of two young men named Leo and Frank Whiting, who appeared at the Hawera Magistrate’s Court to-day on one of 21 charges of theft, the balance of which are pending. It appears that for some time past complaints have been received from the Hawera, Whakamara. Normanby, Eltham and Kaponga districts that various kinds of farm implements, including milk cans, together with the milk they contained, have been stolen from numerous farms. These complaints yesterday led to the arrest of the alleged thieves at Manawapou road by Constables Tocker (Hawera), Townsend (Eltham) and O’Donoghue (Kaponga). Practically nil the goods missed have been recovered by the police, and the charges involve articles valued at £SO 6d. A remand until next Thursday was gran fed and bail was allowed, n'cused in the sum of £SO each and one surety of £IOO each.
