Admiral Eberle. says that the next manoeuvre will be to assemble the combined fleet at Honolulu and investigate fleet anchorage - facilities in the islands. It is a question whether we hai'’© sufficient fuel to hold the manoeuvres at Honolulu, which is the point to ; Avhich the programme aims at reaching. America reckons xipoh defeating Japan in a naval battle off Honolulu, and afterwards pursuing the- fleet Avestwayd as far as Midway Island, 3100 miles distant from San Francisco', and continuing operations in Australian xvaters, assuming a junction with the Australian fleet. The manoeuvres will include replenishing fuel at sea. This is considered America’s weak point.
An American despatch says that is is intended to promote anti-Japan ism in Australia and New Zealand", with the object of showing America’s strength compared with Japan.—Sydney Sun Cable. The Daily NeAvs’ naval correspondent draws attention to the fact that the United States is arranging for six weeks’ manoeuvres early in 1925, based at Hawaii, which is the best naval headquarters in the event of war with an Asiatic Power. ,It says newspapers in Japan are displaying the keenest interest in the matter.
