(From Our Own Correspondent). WINNER OF STEWART WILSON ■ gup. r Miss Jean Miller, daughter of Mr S. Miller, farmer, Oeo, and a pupil of the Oeo Public School, is to be heartily congratulated on winning the Stewart Wilson Cup, which is open for all schools in New Zealand for practical agriculture crops. Miss Miller won with a crop of mangolds which worked out at 1381 tons to’ the- acre, no doubt a splendid record. Last- year the cup was Avon by a Southland boy. Miss Jean Miller, avlio is only 13 years of age, has received the following official letter from Mr C. J. Reakes, DirectorGeneral of the Department of Agriculture: —“Dear Miss Miller, —It has been decided to award the Stewart Wilson Cup to yourself for 1924, and I Avish to congratulate you most heartily upon AA-inning the cup. The thorough and painstaking Avork you did in producing such a fine crop of mangolds renders you in every AA-ay deserving of the honour, the results obtained being an outstanding one, and I am very pleased that a Taranaki girl should have proved the best agricultural chib competitor for the season. The cup is being sent to Mr A. W. Deem, instructor in agriculture, Moumahaki Experimental Farm, Waverley, avlio Avill arrange for you and your friends to vieAV it, Avh,en it is to be returned to the Department’s custody. As a permanent record of your having won the cup a gold medal suitably' inscribed will be fonvarded to you at an early date. Mr Millerkas received the following letter from Mi' J. W. Deem, instructor in x agriculture, Moumahaki Experimental Farm, stating that he is A'ery pleased to see Jean Avin the Stewart Wilson Cup and gold medal for the year, and offering his congratulations to her, and stating if there is any function at the school or in the district some time next month, he will be very pleased to come and present the prizes, and asking for a. photo of Jean cv the crop for reproduction in the Agricultural* Journal. The settlers of the district extend their hearty, congratulations to Miss Jean Miller on her very find record. THE MUNICIPAL RAND. ' At the adiourned annual meet in rr of the Manaia Municipal Brass Rand, Avhich Avas held on Tuesday night, there being a poor attendance, it was resolved and carried, on the motion of Bandsman O. Franklin and S. White junr., that the band disband from tonight owing to the laxity of the members not attending practices; and that the Toavia Board he. asked to call in all instruments,, and that a recommendation be. made to the Town Board to call a oublic meeting to form another hand. MAGISTRATE’S COURT. „ The monthly sitting of the Magistrate’s Court was held at Manaia yesterday before Mr Arthur M. MoAvlem, S.M. was convicted, and fined 20s and vs costs. C. 11. Buckingham, for failing to register under the Deienee Act within the time prescribed, was convicted and discharged. I>. W. Anglesley, on a similar charge, was convicted .and discharged.
