FRAUD ALLEGED.
\ CHARGES AGAINST TWO MEN. BY CABLE—PRESS* ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT SYDNEY, Oct. 29. The hearing of the charges of alleged. false pretences against William Joseph McCarthy and Cornelius Cullen was continued to-day. It is alleged that they represented to Mr. C. H. Murphy, a member of the Legislative Assembly, that they had the power, and were in a position, to prevent his exclusion from, the Australian Labour Party, thereby attempting to obtain £SO from him with, intent to defraud him. i Detectives gave evidence that when Murphy met Cullen and McCarthy he went to the bank, came back and handed McCarthy a roll of notes. As he was putting them into his pocket a detective took them. In reply to the detectives Muiphy said he gave the men the money because they told him they could guarantee a safe passage at the meeting of the executive of the Australian Labour Party and prevent his expulsion. When asked if that was what they had been given the monev for, Cullen made no reply and McCarthy denied ever having the money. The hearing was adjourned until November 12 owing to the absence of certain witnesses for the defence.
