MANAIA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) LATE MR CUNNINGHAM. The mortal remains of the late Mr W. Cunnningham, of Normanby road, Manaia, were laid to rest in the Msinaia Cemetery on Wednesday afternoon, there being present friends and sympathisers from all parts of the district, and also New Plymouth, Waitara and Stratford, to show their last respect to the deceased. The very long funeral procession showed the respect in which the deceased was held by all who knew him. A service was. held at the residence before leaving for the cemetery, Mr J. Logie, of New Plymouth, officiating. He also officiated at the grave. The following were the pall-bearers: Messrs J. Honore, H. Hill, S. J. Bennett, J. Imlah, W. Pearson and T. Hair. There were numerous wreaths sent. The citizens of Manaia and district extend to the widow and famiiv their deepest svmpathy. . ‘ WEDNESDAY NIGHT’S CONCERT. As anticipated the concert held in the Manaia Town Hall on Wednesday night in aid of the town queen was one of the best, and those who were fortunate enough to be present were amply rewarded. it was of a high older, and the audience showed their appreciation by insisting on every item being encored, and some of the performed were encored twice. The folio.* ing was the programme submitted: \ ocai items by Mrs M, J. Goodson, M.ds C. Reilly, Mrs W. McCook, Mrs 1- Freeman, Messrs T. Coleman and Buchan; recitations by Mrs Twaddle, Messrs McCormick and Birch; comic items by Mr Simpson; and Highland dancing by Miss Williams. At the finish of the programme Mr J. Cosgrove, on behalf of the committee, healtily thanked the Havvera, Otakeho and Manaia performers for the splendid treat they had given them. It*was one of the best corn ert-s that had been given at Manaia, and he was very verv pleased to state that the audience present was a most enthusiastic one and showed their appreciation by the round of applause given to each artist. The committee once again heartily thanked the performers for their orea'l kindness and for the special treat°they had given them.
