U.S. MINISTER’S REQUEST. . AVASHINGTON, Oct. 12. Mr. J. AA’. AVeeks, Secretary for War, has asked the Director of the Budget to appropriate 23,00,000 dollars (£4,600,000) for the building up of the United States air service. This is 10,000,000 dollars (£2,000,000) more than the previously intended appropriation by Mr. AVeeks, and' the General AA r ar Staff are agreed that the United States must keep its air service on a, par with other leading powers.

Governmental expenses for the entire nation in 1923 amounted to 10,045,000.000 dollars (£2,009.000,000) —the total representing 91 dollars (£l9 4s) from every person in the United States.
