Til the Assembly, the Treasurer in his budget speech said the deficit for the year was £53,259, and the estimated surplus for the coming year £9989. The accumulated deficit was £1,592,488, and the public debt £70,100,164, or £132 per head of the population, an increase of £ll for the year. It is proposed to increase the general exemption from income tax from £l5O to £2OO, and also to increase the deduction for children from £3O to £SO where incomes do not exceed £650. The loss will be made up by an increased land tax.
