EASY DIVORCE.

CHURCH CONCERNED e ANGLICAN SYNOD’S VIEWS.' QUESTION OF RE-MARRIAGE. (by TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION. AUCKLAND, Oct 21. ■At the Anglican Synod to-day the Rev. F. Hardy proposed a motion expressing concern at the alarming increase in divorces in New Zealand, and urging on the clergy the vital necessity of constant and clear teaching regarding Christian marriage. The mover said the Church of England had definitely laid it down that divorced persons were not to be re-married by the ministers, but parties went off to other denominations that were thought very broad-minded. The Rev. Bell characterised the New Zealand law on divorce as a positive disgrace to any country calling itself Christian. Th f Rfv. Steele thought the Church should have no relations with persons who had committed the sin of re-marriage after divorce. Bishop Averill deplored the lack of strong public opinion. He had the greatest possible sympathy for the really innocent party, but he could not see that the Church could permit the re-marriage of divorced persons, and thought the real evil was not so much divorce as re-marriage. After a. lengthy debate the motion was carried.
