SMART ROAD WORKS.

FERTILISER COMPANY EARLY COMMENCEMENT. Mr. J. Wilson, general manager of the Farmers’ Fertiliser Company, accompanied by Mr. S. Irwin Crookes, senr., a director and engineer, and his son, are visiting New Plymouth in connection with the taking over of the Smart Road meat works, the purchase of which has now been completed. The works, which will be known in future as the Taranaki Acid and Fertiliser Works, have to undergo extensive alterations, and Mr. Crookes will take charge of this preliminary work. The necessary remodelling will be expedited as much as possible, so that operations can he commenced at an early date. Orders were placed some time ago for the necessary plant, and cabled confirmation makes it probable that delivery may be expected by Christmas. At the works a strong staff is dismantling and remodelling in readiness for the change of industry. The benefits to the farming community, whose need of increased quantities of manure grows year by year, must be patent to all. The manufacture locally must mean a considerable saving ns well as great convenience. It is probable the future will see a. great development in the industry, to the advantage not only of New Plymouth, hut also to the whole of Taranaki.
