D. Kennedy): In my experience they are very nearly failures. I know of five instances, at the recent Hastings meeting, wherein girl clerks issued the Avrong tickets. Did anyone else bear they Avere not satisfactory? ■ ; Mr. A. Reid: I hadn’t until this moment. Mr. W. Harvey said the same girls performed the work at both the Napier Park and the Hastings meetings. A member: They should be spoken to. The chairman: Mr. Tipping will probably deal with the matter in his report. He added that in two instances he knew of it had been extremely fortun-r ate, for the gentlemen concerned, that the wrong ticket had been issued. (Laughter;) The secretary: ,As far as actual handling of money goes the girls are J more satisfactory than the ; men. There is less trouble. It was stated that the girls ..were paid 25s per day, compared with two guineas to male, clerks. A saving was hereby effected. , \ The chairman: The saving would not influence us unless the service was satisfactory.
