ZULULAND RAILWAYS.
NEW LINE PROJECTED. . JOHANNESBURG, Sept. 2. Hitherto there has been little public information concerning the projected railway extension in Zululand, which, is expected to play an important part in the development of the Union’s cotton industry. Details of the new line have. hoAvever, been made public, the Minister .of Railways having asked lea\ r e of the House of Assembly to introduce a Bill providing for the line. The line starts from Matutuba station, immediately before Somkele. the terminus of the North Coast Railway, and runs for miles across Northern Natal to a terminus; on the south bank of the Pongolo river 'in. the neighbourhood of the Paulpietersburg. The areas Avhich the new line will serve are described as the eastern portion of the Pietretief district of the Transvaal, comprising '150,000 acres; Swaziland from the Transvaal border in the south of the Usutu river in the north; and the Lebombo Mountains forming the eastern boundary of a large portion of Northern Natal. The Crown lands affected by the line amount to 349,276 acres, of which 42,334 acres are in the Pietretief district.
