West Australia match to-day. HOWELL BENEFIT MATCH. SOME GREAT BATTING. SYDNEY, Oct. 17. The Howell benefit match, New South Wales against an Australian team, commenced in fine weather and on a goed wicket. New South Wales lost 7 wickets for £76 —Collins 106, Bardsley 90, Taylor 111, Kippax 115. Collins and Bardsley were first at. the wickets. The partnership rattled -up 181 in quick time; defying many bowling changes tried by the opposing captain, Clem Hill. Collins was particularly, effective and lively. He reached a century, ill 113 minutes, giving no chances. Macartney, at seven, fell an early -■victim to one of Hornibrook’s deceptive deliveries. Bardsley was lucky, twice being missed. at 25 and 71. After opening carefully, Taylor launched out, batting freely" and' openly, the partnership increasing the total at a rapid rate. The fielding throughout was ex* ceptionally good.
