The diplomatic body at Peking has instructed the Shanghai authorities to deport Little Hsu. He will probably be sent to Japan, i The situation at Shanghai and in the vicinity is quiet. Fukienite Sunchuanfang has arrived with his chief of staff. Beibaeoshan has also arrived. Heavy figthing continues on the Shankaikwan front. An official. message states that Chang Tso Lin’s forces have been driven out beyond the great wall at Mukden. An official telegram says that Chang Tso Lin’s troops occupied Shanhaikwan yesterday. Merchant volunteers at Canton were defeated by the soldiers, and fled. The defeat was largely due to the conflagrations, which swept away thou-' sands of buildings. The number of casualties is unknown. Soldiers slashed and stabbed at excited civilians. People attempted to enter Shameen with valuables, but only properly authorised persons were permitted’to do so.—Reuter.
