ENTERPRISE AT WANGANUI.

FERTILISER PLANT TO BE PROJECTED. The spirit of enterprise on this coast is again demonstrated by the. news to hand that negotiations are practically completed by Kemptliorne, Prosser and C 0.,. Ltd., for.the establishment of a fertiliser plant on a generous scale at Wanganui. It is estimated that it will cost between £150,000 and £170,000, and will provide employment for nearly one hundred men. The plant will be of the latest type, fully equipped in every detail, and electrically driven throughout, with a producing capacity of from 50,000 to 60,000 tons of fertiliser per annum, the main feature of the output being the conversion of Nauru rock phosphates into superphosphates. This will be the first plant of its kind in the Wellington district. Geographically the factory i s excellently placed to supply the farming districts of the Taranaki, Hawke’s Bay, and Wellington provinces, and it is estimated that owing to the easy access to railway transportation and the consequent lower freight charges, thousands of tons of fertiliser which annually are necessarily brought long distances to the farming districts will be able to be offered to the man on the land at a much lower cost than he is at present paying. The benefit of this project, to both the individual in the areas mentioned and, in a wider sense, to the country in general, can hardly be overestimated. Apart from the fact that farmers will be able to obtain highgrade fertiliser at an appreciably lower cost, and to receive supplies in a shorter space of time, the plant will offer employment, to a large, number of men, and be an added attraction to the district, for men of business discernment. The development of this project will be watched with keen interest. by business men and farmers in general.
