LICENSING LAW.

BILL THIS SESSION. PREMIER’S STATEMENT. (By Telegraph—Special to Star.) WELLINGTON, Oct. 16. The question of whether the Licensing Bill will be dealt with by Parliament this session was raised in the House to-day by Mr Wilford during the discussion on the Licensing Committee’s report on the subject of corporate control. Mr Wilford expressed the view that such legislation would be dealt with this session. If a Licensing Bill Was not a Government measure it would be merely verbal Donnybrook, and Parliament would get nowhere; both sides would see to that. Mr Massey said he would submit the committee’s report to Cabinet on Saturday, by which time the law draftsmen would probably be preparing the Bill. If the House said “Go on.” the Bill would be taken this session. 1 Mr Wilford: What does the House say to that? Mr , Massey : I know the feeling of the House. Mr Wilford;: Then you can say whether it will be gone on with. Mr Massey: Yes! When Cabinet makes up its mind. . Mr Wilford: That is the point. It is not the House that decides. Mr Massey: No! but the opinion of the House will guide Cabinet, especially near the end of the session. Further cross talk passed between the Premier and Mr Wilford, until Mr Massey remarked that he was not in the House for purposes of cross-examina-tion. If the Bill was not gone on with this session it would be taken at the beginning of next session. Hon. j. A. Hanan: The Bill will be circulated this session? Mr Massey: Most certainly, whether we go on with it or not.
