POLITICAL SENSATION.
A PLOT THAT FAILED. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT SYDNEY, Oct. 16. A sensation has been caused in political circles, by the arrest of two men— William Joseph McCarthy and Cornelius Cullen—on a charge of allegedly falsely pretending to C. H. Murphy, a member of the Legislative Assembly, that they had the power, and' were in a position, to prevent his exclusion from the Australian Labour Party, thereby attempting to obtain £SO from him with intent to defraud. It appears, according to Murphy, that the two men approached him with the offer contained in the charge. , He communicated with the police, who arranged that he should meet the men. While in conversation a detective arrived, and the two men and Murphy were taken to the Police Station, where a charge was laid.
