A somewhat serious situation has arisen as the result of the notorious Anfuite general, Hsusliutseng, knownas "Little Hsu,” with the support of the remaining Chekiang leaders of Shanghai, buying over the Kiang.su troops who occupied Liingch.ua. These troops have now been joined by disbanded C iiikiangsites. The combined forces, numbering approximately 6COU, under the leadership of Hsu, have entrenched themselves near tiie arsenal ott the line ol advance to Sunchusangang. Tukion, the general who captured Hangchow for Kiangsuitch, who is now marching on Shanghai and also along the railway line, is just outside the boundary of the foreign settlements cn the line of advance. Marshal Chi, who is advancing on Shanghai from Qainsan. is acting in concert with tnese troops. Certain Chekiang forces, numbering 4000, are marening on Hangchow from . Ningpo, thus threatening Sun’s rear. The Kiangsnites, Under Chi. are now halted three miles from Hsu’s troops along the railway. Negotiations are taking . place' vdiieh it is hoped will stop the fighting, but the local foreign officials regard the situation as menacing, several thousand leaderless Chekiangites, their officers having disappeared, are going to Shanghai from- t-iis front and are entering the Chinese city. A special train containing Colonel Hilton Johnson and Air A. C. Clear, general manager of the Shanghai railway, was. fired on by Kiangsnites near Quinsan. This was apparently due to a misunderstanding. They were going to Quinsan to interview Chihcieliyiian regarding protective measures for the foreign settlements, but were unable to, complete the journey. An' unconfirmed Japanese agerjsv report states that a Fengtien bomb from an aeroplane dropped near Wu Pei Fu’s quarters at Chinwangtao, after which he took refuge temporarily on the Chinese warship Aichi.
