ALLEGED MISUSE OF UNIFORM
CASE AGAINST TERRITORIAL. What appears to be a glaring ease of the misuse of a uniform issued to a territorial by the defence authorities was brought under *ihe notice of the Hawera Magistrate’s Court this morning. The defendant, James Brew, a (young man of 21 years of age, was charged with failing to return his uniform on demand by the defence authorities, bub Sergeant-Major Rowe, who gave evidence, said that the uniform had since been returned, but in a filthy and damaged condition. It was in August and. October of last year that defendant had been served with the demand, and although he had not worn his uniform once on parade this (uniform produced in court) was the condition in which it was now received back. There were two previous convictions against defendant for failing to render personal service, and as the value of the clothing, £2 19s 3d. bed to be paid, he would ask for a week’s adjournment of the case. The adjournment was granted.
