HAWERA BAND.
AIEETING OF AIEAIBERS AND COAIATITTEE. Last evening members of the band and the committee and officials held a meeting to advance the matter of reforming the Hawera Municipal Band. Air J. Champion presided, and the following were declared members of the band: Alessrs C. S. Mahoney, T. Reynolds, E. Frank, W. Cook, F. Baker, C. F. Taylor, J. Kay, Eden, M. Osborne, and C. H. Lacey. Messrs Mahoney, Cook, Reynolds and Lacey were chosen as band representatives on the general committee. Air Mahoney agreed to act as bandmaster temporarily. The meeting decided to write to the Borough Council and ask them to reconsider their subsidy and allow the whole of the £l5O to go towards the conductor’s salary, Alessrs Alnhonev •and Hawkins being appointed delegates to wait upon the Council in the matter. So as to ensure the engagement of a first-class conductor Air Bone urged the committee to offer a salary of £200; Personally he would guarantee up to £lO should there be a shortage of salary money. It \ya? decided to hold a practice on Monday evening, when further members may be enrolled and instruments will be issued.
