PEDIGREE JERSEYS.

FARMERS’ 00-OP. THIRD ANNUAL SALE. GOOD DEMAND AND PRICES. The best indication of the success of the sale of pedigree Jersey bulls is the satisfaction expressed'" by vendors and also by the- auctioneers. The Tatter consider it- was their best sale of bulls, and one of the best held in Taranaki, this year. The quality generally was very good, competition was keen, and every lot was competed for, bidding being -brisk all the afternoon, and pi-acticallv as good at the end as at the beginning. It is worth mention that most of the bulls offering were yearlings. Outside buyers competed ireelv, and no- less than twenty bulls, went out of the district. The result seems to point to the fact that for good Quality hulls there is a strong demand, and that dairy farmers -are realising that they must have them if the quality of • the herds is to be maintained. tVhen prices are low there is a tendency for farmers to kill their calves and be satisfied with any kind of scrub bull. The demand yesterday showed that the valu-e of quality was realised. Top price—50 guineas—was obtained for two vearlings, one from Mr John Vicolson and one from Mr J. A. Pettigrew. The former is a grandson of Mr James Nicolscn’s famous cow Aster’s August Child, which secured the rioM medal as senior 3-year-old with 90olbs fat. After keen competittion by outside buyers, the bull fell to tile bid of Mr Darbyshire. of Ma-xwelltown. Mr Pettigrew’s bull shows great qualify. being sired by Anzac, a son of Majesty's Fox, out of Floss, who had C.O.R. figures of 621 lbs fat. and his dam was Alicante, a fine typy cow. with a- record of 507 lbs. fat. The purhaser was Mr Handley, of Waitotara. A bull entered by Mr W. D. Knowles, of Patea, brought 36r*gns. Another yearling possessing perhaps the best butter-fat strains of any with catalogue coming from the same family as the world’s champion Vivandiere. and also the ex-champion Genoa’s Daisy and having three strains of chnmmon butter-fat bulls through K.C B. This bull was purchased bv +he Farmers’ Co-op. a# agent for Mr F. Rose, of Tirau. This animal was hardly as well grown as one would like to hnyo seen, but be should develop into a very fine bull. He is certainly b""k?d un by He best butter-fat strains in the- country, and is fit to go into °nv herd. Alto-ptAer- tfia c a ]e wa« v°rv satisfactory. and evidences a healthy optimistic tone in the dairy industry. Thera is a strong demand reoorted for '■-nd stuff, and this is borne, -out by the results of the sale. , Further details were as follow: — On Account G. Grantham, Normanby.
