FATHER KILLED BY SON. ASSAILANT REMANDED. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT • MELBOURNE, Oct. 14. A tragedy occurred at Smythesdale, near Ballarat. Edward Antonio, aged 20, has been remanded on a charge of the wilful murder of his father, Christopher Antonio. According to the police evidence the couple were employed cutting timber. The father was incensed by hi s son asking for a loan of a couple of pounds. A quarrel followed, and the father approached the son, threatening him with an axe in one hand and a bottle in the other. The mother intervened, but was pushed aside. The son then seized the gun, with which he attempted to push or ward his father off- The gun exploded, the full charge entering the father’s abdomen, and death followed in a. few minutes The son rode into Ballarat and surrendered to the police.
