The Bruce Rail and Coal Co.. Ltd., s i uecl . A ’ K - Cooper, a buttermaker, for £4 16s 6d.—Defendant was ordered to pay the amount forthwith, in default five days’ imprisonment. Ira James Bridgc-r (Mr J. Sheat) claimed £6l 5s from Percy. Freeman, a labourer, Mahoe. Mr Sheat said the order was made in January, and since then only £1 had been paid. “Wliat are your wages?” asked Mr Sheat of the defendant, who handed Air Sheat a letter stating that his wages were £1 a week and keep. He had made promises to pay. hut he was troubled with rheumatics, and some weeks only received 10s. He could not pay 2s 6d a week off the amount.—No order was made, Air Shear- remarking that it was hopeless. Ira James Bridger claimed £SO 8s id from Henry M. AYaller, Opunake, a sharemilker. Air Sheat said that an order had been made in Alarch, 1922. The magistrate said that the same man was before him the previous day,' and he had no money whatever. He was a married man with two children, and his wife had been in hospital. He was working for a farmer named Fever and getting 35 per cent of the milk one. He had a hard effort to live, although he seemed desirous of paying money. He was “up against it.”—Mr Sheat said he was prepared to leave the matter with the magistrate. who made no order. Edith Nicol. tea room manageress, claimed £lB 9s from James Brew, a labourer. —-The defendant was ordered to nay forthwith, in default 21 davs’ imprisonment, the warrant to he siisnended provided the defendant paid off the debt at the gate of £2 per week. BY-LAAYS BREACHES. Hugh McGuire, Mangatoky, pleaded niilty to riding a motor-cycle at night on the Eltham Road without a light. He further pleaded guilty of failing to notify the. change of ownership of a motor-cycle. Defendant was fined 20s and costs. On the second charge he was ordered to nay the costs. Victor Scanlon was charged with riding an unlighted cycle in High Street. —-A fine of l()s and costs was imposed. A. E. Ccrkill was charged with ■ fn.il- ■■■■•<■ to comply with an evder of the Eltham County Council that he cut hack overhanging hedges and trees to the bo lindane's of his sections on the Eltham and Stuart Roads. A nominal fine of £3 and costs 10s was imposed. A CHIMNEY EIRE. John Joseph Patterson, licensee of the Eltham Hotel. was charged with suffering a chimney to he on fire at the hotel on October 8, and was fii ed os and court costs 7s.
