A SPLENDID RECORD.

PEACE MEMORIAL COMMITTEE. FINAL MEETING. With a splendid "record of service completed, and with a credit balance of £ll4 14s 4d, the HaAvera Peace Memorial Committee was disbanded ves--erday. There were present: Messrs Dixon (chairman), the Mayor (Mr li. A. Bone), Lieut.-Col. E. P. Cox, E. (inlanders, M. C. Crighton, and the iecretary (Mr R. S. Sage). The statement of receipts and payments Avas as folloAV : Receipts.—Collection by canvassers and other donations, £2361 2s lOd; incerest earned, £616 Is 2d. Expenditure.—Cost of memorial, £2561 2s 2d; cost of flagging around memorial, £65 6s; cost of electric iamp, £22 6s 3d; architects’ fees, £169 LBs; advertising tenders for memorial, etc., £9 14s 3d; advertising, printing, etc., for opening ceremony, £32 8s; stamps, stationery and bank charges, £1 15s; balance cash at Bank of Australasia, £ll4 14s 4d. After considerable discussion, in which the general consensus of opinion was that the financial position was most satisfactory, the following resolution Avas carried on the motion of Eieut.-Colonel Co.x, seconde'd bv Mr F. Gillanclers. That the amount of the cash balance in the bank be •handed over to the Borough Council, with the instruction chat the fund be deposited in the Post. Office Savings Bank, the Mayor and the Town Clerk for the time being to ict as trustees of the account, which diall remain as a maintenance fund ior the HaAvera Peace Memorial Arch.

The Mayor said that the committee md the people of Hawera owed a debt >f gratitude to Mr Sage, who, since -he inception of the fund, had done qilendid work, and had devoted a great amount of time to the affairs of the committee, and who had rendered his able services absolutely gratuitously. Je moved that the committee express ppieciation of M,r Sage’s Avork. Other complimentary references were mule, aud the motion was carried uiahimously. On the motion of the chairman, it va.s decided to send a letter of ap-n-eciation to the Mayor and mefnbers f the Borough Council for the splenlid Avoik done in connection with the evelling, etc., of the ground near the arch, and to ask that the council take the responsibility for all time of dghting the arch.
