RECRUITING.FOR THE NAVY. PROPAGANDA IN SCHOOLS. (BY TELEGP.APH —PRESS ASSOCIATION. WELLINGTON, Oct. 13. The House of Representatives met at 7.30 to-night. Replying to the Leader of the Labour Party (Mr. H. E. Holland), the Hqn. C. J. Parr said he had caused- an inquiry into the complaint that a certain recruiting officer had been making an appeal for boys at one or more of the public schools to join the Navy. He agreed that public schools should not be made a ground for recruiting for the navy or army.' There was no objection to a recruiting officer going to schools tb deliver lectures on the history of the British Navy ; but there was room for objection if schools were made a field for propaganda work. He could assure 1 the member that there would lie no further ground for complaint in this direction in future.
In reply to Mr. H. Poland (Ohinemuri), t£e Hon. G. J. Anderson said he hoped the Mining Bill would be drafted in a few days. When it was before the Mines Committee there would lie ample opportunity for interested parties to give evidence if they so desired. The House rose at 12.5 a.m. till 2.30 p.m. •
