RACE IN AUSTRALIA. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPY RIGHT MELBOURNE, Oct. 12. The weather was fine and the road conditions pretty good for the Warnambool to Melbourne cycle road race. A stiff wind helped the riders. The placed men were all Victorians in the professional section, King, Snell, and BHumby, while the amateurs placed were Thomas (New South Wales) and Davidson and McKay (Victoria). W. A. King, on 62 minutes, and W. E. King (54 minutes), father and son. were in the lead most of the way, W. E. King winning by two yards after a fine finish from C. Snell (53 minutes). J. Baumhy (50 minutes) was third, and the elder King finished fourth. The winner’s time was Bhrs. 9min. 18sec. H. Opperman made the fastest time, 7hrs. 15min. 37sec. The amateur hundred miles race, Colac to Melbourne, resulted: H. Thomas (New South Wales), on 16min., 1; J. Davidson (Victoria), 16min., 2; A. C. McKay (Victoria), 20min., 3. Won by a length. Time, shrs. Omin. 57sec. The 1 fastest, time was gained by N. McLeod (Victoria), scratch, 4hrs. 53min. oOsec., breaking the record for the race made by himself last year bv four minutes.
