The police report that in the search ior tile missing Mawson women they travelled right across Aruheiiu Land, out- round no truce whatever of white women nor did they see many blacks. Lhe aboriginals were apparently . weii °f the approach of the police and the nature of their mission, and disappeared mysteriously. Seme of the police consider that thd search proved nothing, and they sav that in the country traversed pursuit of the blacks was extremely difficult. MELBOURNE, Oct. 12. , The Minister for Defence (Mr G. F. ■Pearce) has- received a telegram from the administrator of the Northern Teriitoiy stating that the steamer sent to search for the missing Douglas Mawson women has returned to Darwin. The officer in charge of the search party reports that they made a thorough search, and they are convinced that there is no foundation in the story that white women are held captive bi blacks.
