OPERA HOUSE TO-NIGHT. THE AMAZING MJR'ANOS. “NOT FOR. WEAK HEARTS.” Thrilling is the right ..word .(indeed, it is not even adequate) to .apply to the “Flying Torpedo/’ as presented by the Miranos. They have a thrill entirely new to New Zealand and Australia, It is really a captive aeroplane fixed to one end of a revolving bar, the whole being balanced on a steel model of the Eiffel Tower. Seated in a. “torpedo” airship, one of the daring troupe start% the- engine; around goes the propeller, : and around goes the machine in a circular flight, limited only by the length • of -st eel' framework. At the other end of tlie revolving framework is an; anchor,; on which another performer accomplishes the most amazing feats whilst in ■ flight. It is a haiu-raising entertain-, ment, to which effect is added. by the, roar of the .engine and the. increasing speed of the torpedo." The thrill is a sustained one, and the turn particularly well staged. It is not a per-" fo’-mance to be witnessed by those with weak hearts. The Uplift, of an inti re community through the faith and belief that “love is stronger than hate,” on the part of one little, girl., nlays an important part in. ‘.‘Polly of the Storm Country,” in which Mildred Harris Chaplin will be seen in her .second First National attraction a: the Opera House to-night. iu. : yon-■ iunetion with the Mirano Bros. GRAND THEATRE TO-NIGHT. ; “RIDERS UP.” “Riders Up,” latest" Uniyersal, allstar picture, opened its screen--'siiow-'-ue: in the Grand Theatre last evening, and mom than lifed, up rto. the .expectations that had been aroused by. advance notices of this picture storv of life around a race track. This holds true for the' types pictured, which are true to the “tout”, specie; The picture was adapted from the Red Book Magazine story, “When Johnny Comes Marching Home,” by . Gerald Beaumont. The picture js. full of.* those little touches of human emotion that bring moisture to the eye. Also there is some wholesome comedy,, as well as a charming love interest be-, tween, the likeable . “Sure Thing” Johnny and Peggy, daughter of' Mother Ryan, which is never overdone.
