“SNOBBERY”

MINISTERS AT COURT. RESOLUTIONS WITHDRAW. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. Received Oct. 9, 11.10 a.m. LONDON, Oct. 8. Expectations of liveliness at the Labour conference on the subject of Ministers’ alleged snobbery were disappointed. when Mr AVill Thorne, chairman of the Standing Orders Committee, announced that eight resolutions on the agenda paper, pretesting against the attendance of Ministers at Court social functions, wearing court dress, had been withdrawn. A scene unexpectedly developed when Mr'Thorne announced that composite resolutions on birth contrc.l would be presented, and ladies were bent on delivering a lecture thereon. This evoked decided protests from women delegates and Mr Thorne, who said he favoured birth control, apologised for hurting their feelings.— Reuter.
