DOMESTIC TRAGEDY. (BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) AUCKLAND, Oct.. 7. “He is slowly recovering,” is the hospital report concerning James Simkin, who is suffering from a razor wound and whose wife was murdered in Manawa Road on Sunday night. MAN’S BODY FOUND. WELLINGTON, Oct. 7. The body of a man was found on the town belt this morning. A bottle and pill-box close by apparently contained strychnine. No papers were found. He was sft 6in in height and about 30 yeans of age. His name was ascertained later to be Clifford V. Lloyd, employed in the Government Stamp Department. He served during the ivar. It is understand he had relatives in the city. FURNITURE FACTORY GUTTED. AUCKLAND, Oct. 7. Considerable damage was caused by a< fire at D. G. McLeod and Co.’s furniture factory in Dock Street, Freeman’s Bay, this evening. The building, an old two-store}’ wooden one, was a furnace when the brigade arrived, and it was practically gutted. The plant was also seriously damaged, the stock of furniture also suffering to a considerable extent. The loss and the insurances are not available. ANOTHER HAUL OF OPIUM. WELLINGTON. Oct. 7. ' Another haul of opium was made tonight on hoard the Maheno. A large haul was recently secured on the Sussex. To-day the Maheno was searched. No trace of opium was found, but a further search bv examining officers revealed seven tins valued at £l5O hidden in a deck house. So far no owner has been discovered.
