MANAIA.
. (From .Our Own Correspondent.) If eminent townspeople are to be believed all Manaia is holding its breath anticipation of the performance of “Soot and the Fairies,” to be given in the Town Hall on Wednesday, October 8. The children have been training hard for some considerable time, and at a dress rehearsal last Wednesday they showed no trace of nervousness whatever. Tickets are selling rapidly, and a good attendance is assured. The box plan is now open at Lewin’s, and to be sure of securing a seat it would be wise to book early. There is sure to be a record attendance. The cantata is well worth seeing. There is still much excitement in connection with the carnival queen. Both, committees are to be commended on the manner in which they are working for their respective candidates. The second count took place on Saturday night, and the result of the queens is: Town (Miss M. Long), 25,600 votes; Country (Miss C. Vine), 18,300.
