MOTORING INTERESTS.

Consequent on the progressive loading policy of the local bodies of Taranaki which lias resulted in giving the people the best thoroughfares in the Dominion, motor traffic has grown to an extent beyond the dreams of the most ardent optimist. Many years ago we remember the opinion was expressed that the configuration of this province ivould not suit the motor car or other motor vehicle, and that no great increase was probable. This has been reversed by the adoption of the tar-sealed road, and now there is a huge fleet of such vehicles and a very large and ever increasing number of people interested in the question of the control of this fast traffic, and consequently in all matters of taxation connected therewith. In order that they may speak with one voice in such matters and make their influence felt“ the ieaders have wisely adopted a. policy expressed by the old saying, “union is strength.” Following up that idea they very wisely formed a Dominion Council and urged on all centres to form their districts into associations. South Taranaki formed a sub-association some years ago which did much good work' The war, however, made it impossible to carry on, and no further move was made until a short time back, when the main highways scheme with its necessary proposals was before the country. The district association was then formed. The executive are now endeavouring to link up the various outlying but very important centres into brandies. With that object in view they are attending meetings at these centres, and already a branch lias been successfully forjped at Opunake. Members will visit Manaia tonight, and later in the week at Patea. Waverley, Eiltham and Kaponga meetings will be held. Tt is hoped that the motorists of these districts will second their initiative and appoint committees to work np interest, and so enable the whole province to he linked up into one strong united body
