ADVERTISING THE DOMINION
The Prime Minister stated in the House of Representatives on Monday night that he had communicated zvith the High Commissioner’s Office to inquire zvhat zvas being done in the zvay of publicity on behalf of the Dominion, and had received the follozving reply:’ “With reference to your teleoram of September 22, constant supply of articles and notes on Dominion and its trade, including Meat and Dairy Board, together zvith photographs to journals of all descriptions, result in veiy satisfactory publicity and frequent reproduction of photographs. Average daily press clippings 125? Criticism promptly replied to. Lectures gfeen by myself and Drezv, -and lectures encouraged zvith advice and excellent slides, of zvhic-h 60 sets ip constant use. Every opportunity, such as exhibition, seized for special publicity. Films being exhibited wherever All Blacks play, and arrangements made wider distribution zvhen more films available. Consequently, inquiries, especially from prospective immigrants, and from schools, for publicity material largely increased. Publicity staff fully employed, and result more than justifies expenditure.”
The Prime Minister remarked that he had never been impressed zvith the spot where the High Commissioner’s office was located in the Strand. It zvas quite true that the thoroughfare was a. busy one, but a corner section zvouid have been much better. Some of the other Dominions had corner sections. Corner sections zvere more likely to attract people than frontages lez r el zvith the rest of a street. He thought, though, that the High Commissioner and his staff had rooked after Nezv Zealand’s interests verv zz T ell.
