MANUTAHI.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) A social and dance was held in the local hall on Tuesday evening in aid of the Manutahi School funds. There was a fair attendance on this occasion, as this is a very worthy object and a most necessary one. The School Committee Avorked in Ainison Avith. the head teacher to make the affair a success. During the intervals ,bet\A r een the dances songs were contributed by the folloAving ladies: Mesdames Hamel (Patea), D. Schwass, Barclay, and Miss Harvie. They each had to respond to an encore. The accompaniments and dance music were played by Afisses O’Sullivan and D. Cornwall. Progressive euchre was played on tables, set up on the stage. The avinner s Avere: Gents, Master S. Hancock; ladies, Mrs Pearson. Consolation — Gents, Air Maires; ladies, Aliss AI. Porteous. A bountiful supper was supplied by the ladies and done full justice to. The hall had been tastefully decorated, and reflected great credit .on'those responsible for it. The funds benefited to the extent of £7 14s. The teacher, Air A. B. Barns, who pi’esided, in a neat speech thanked all those who had kindly assisted to make the affair a success. , It is a pity the school attendance is again on the decline. There has been a deal of sickness about lately. We are pleased to see that one (Air T. Pearsoii) has returned from the hospital. The Post and Telegraph Department are making headway with the installation of the direct line of telephonic connection Avith HaAvera. There is quite an altered appearance about our little toAvnsln'p Avith the erection of the neAv poles.
