OTAKEHO.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) " ' MAORI DANCE. The Ivljbqri. dance held in the local hall on Tuesday night proved to be one of the most successful dances held here for some time. A very strong committee had all details well in hand, and spared no pains to see that all had an enjoyable evening. A large crowd of pakehas and Maoris from near and far packed the hall to its utmost .capacity, and were highly delighted with the dish band, poi dances, etc. A maiden waltzing competition was held, the first prize being awarded to Miss McVinnie (Otakeho) and Mr. W. Morris (Otakeho), and. the second to Miss Calder (Otakeho) and Air. W. Symmaris (Otakeho). Prizes were also given for the best lady and gentleman dancers in all dances from 8 till 11. This Proved a very interesting competition, and the judge had a difficult problem in awarding points for each danc-e. The winners in this were Miss Rowe (Manaia) and Air, Langley (Kaupokonui). ■ The judges were Mr ; White and Air. Nuku Terawhiti, and their decisions .met with, the . entire approval of. 'all .present. .. Excellent music was supplied by Airs. Bradley, and_ a very enjoyable dance terminated in the small hours of the morning. TENNIS CLUB. The Tenins Club are holding their annual dance on Friday, October 10, and are leaving no stone unturned to make this, dance eclipse any of their past efforts.
