AUSTRALIA’S BOUNTIFUL HARVEST. WORKERS’ THREAT. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT (Received Oct. 3, 11.10 a.m.) SYDNEY, Oct. 3. According to a statement issued by the president of the Australian Workers’ Union, that organisation is considering a proposal to strike at the forthcoming harvest, which promises to be the most bountiful for some years, unless claims for a substantial increase in rates for all harvest workers are granted. Attempt© to negotiate w'ith farmers, states the president, have been fruitless and would be discontinued and direct action taken, unless the demands are conceded. Wheat handling and shipping firms have increased the rates a penny halfpenny per hundred bags.
