Japan is seeking to place as extensive orders of wheat as the market is prepared to take up to many thousands of tons. The Daily Telegraph says the Japanese orders received yesterday were of a size which did not allow of them being completely entertained, and adds that the wheat trade is w’ondering what is at the back of this exceptional demand from the East.. The idea is prevalent that the cause might be found in Japan’s threat to intervene in the Chinese trouble. POSITION IN CHINA. INTENSE FIGHTING. PEKING, Oct. 30. The military movements are becoming more decisive. Special bridges on the Shanghai-Nigpo railway have been destroyed to prevent the movement of the Kiangsu forces. There have been sporadic encounters between Chekiang and Kiangsu troops. Alodem guns were used and heavy casualties reported on both sides. Many Chekiang wounded have been taken to Shanghai' international settlement hospital. Fierce drives by both belligerents along the entire front were reported last night.
