WEEKLY SITTING. The weekly sitting of the Hawera Magistrate’s Court was held to-day. when Mr J. S. Barton, S.M., presided. Harold Gordon Tonks, a second offending inebriate within the past six months, pleaded guilty.Sergeant Henry said that defendant caused his family a good deal of trouble as the result of his drinking habits, and he thought another prohibition order should be issued against him. ■ In reply to the S.M. defendant said he would sooner not have an order, but Mr Barton pointed out that with defendant’s long* list of previous convictions of a similar nature he was heading for Pakatoa. Sergeant Henry: I am absolutely certain that it is in the man’s best interests that an order should be made against him. Constable Tocker gave evidence regarding defendant’s drinking habitsand the case wgs concluded bv the Magistrate Inflicting a fine of £l,- in 'efault 48 houis’ imprisonment, and also directing that a prohibition order for a term of 12 months be made out. \\m. Bishop was charged with failing to register under the Defence Act. Evidence produced was to the effect chat defendant had committed a breach by not registering, although he had not actually dodged drill by reason of the fact that he resided in. yhe non-effective area. A fine of 15s and 7s court costs was imposed. Eric Wm. Clarkson was fined 10s and 7s court costs for allowing a motor car. to stand in Union street without a light. A letter was received from defendant stating that the rear light had been broken in an accident ° a couple of days previous to the date mentioned in the charge, but he- had not had an opportunity of having repairs effected.
