The AYangqnui Fanners’ Union have] decided to urge upon the Government that, .failing an agricultural bank scheme being given effect to, the advances to settlers limit should be increased. During a short discussion on the question of motors and the new Bill and the roads problem generally. the president of the South Taranaki Executive of the Farmers’ Union said that the district had been extremely fortunate in their public men on local bodies, who had been wise and had shown great foresight in their duties. They had also had the courage of their opinions, and launched out to get the roads in great condition. Their system of tar-sealed roads had made it possible to secure loans under which the sinking funds would jiay for when the loans expired. Where, however, macadam roads were laid down the roads were worn out long before maturity of the loans. He said he made this statement with a full knowledge of what had been done. The Taranaki Herald reports that a serious charge was brought before the New Plymouth Magistrate’s Court yesterday, and which was stated by De-tective-Sergeant Cooney, who conducted the prosecution, to reveal a shocking state of affairs. Samuel Percy Julian, aged 39, a sharemilker, of Tikorangi, was charged on six counts with .the crime of incest. After hearing the evidence the accused pleaded not guilty, and was committed to the next sessions of the Supreme Court, on November 25, for trial. Application for bail was refused by the Magistrate. Judgment for the plaintiff, with costs against the defendant, was given at the Hawera Magistrate’s Court this morning in each of the following undefended civil cases: H. L. Spratt v. A. J. Davies, £l7 Os 4d; Calloway and Son v. E. Keelev, £6 7s 2d; M. Allen t. Karina, £5 10s. Orders were made in the following judgment summons cases: L. A. Taylor v. Whakawina Tamakuki, £2 18s, in default three days’ imprisonment; A. Vintelfv. W'i Tarnati, £l7 2s od. in default 19 days: A. Linkhorn v. E. Leach, £1 6s at the rate of Is per week.
