N.Z. DAIRY PRODUCE.
MR. S. FARQUHAR’S INQUIRIES LONDON, Aug. 12. During his, stay,, in -the -Mother Country, Mr. S. .R. Farquhar (Awatuna) has naturally been making inquiries in connection with the butter and cheese industry of New Zealand (writes a correspondent of , the Otago Daily Times), through'whom a number of the big dairy factories in New Zealand consign their produce. Asking how this •■•firm considered the quality of New Zealand b,utter here compared with .Danish, -Mr. Farquhar was assured that the drily reason’ Danish butter always brought a higher price was because it was fresher; If Danish butter were shipped .to the Dominion and compared with New'. Zealand fresh butter' the New " Zealand butter would be just as superior to the imported produce as is the Daijish; butter compared with the imported butter from New Zealand. This' means, of course, that the factories in' the Dominion turn out butter equal in- quality to the Danish. With regard to cheese, Mr. Farquhar was told that its quality was <rood, and some which he tasted from Taranaki which had been lying in store for nine months he found certainly was good. He received the assurance that New Zealand cheese was superior to Canadian and equal to English, and that the high prices quoted for English make were onlv tor a very small Quantity of farmers’ best home-made. “The and cheese of New Zealand have a flood name in Enel and,” remarked Mr. Farquhar. “and it is up to the farmers of New Zealand to keep that good ; namey and never risk sacrificing quality for quantity.'”.-;
