CONTROL BOARD’S OPERATIONS. MARINE INSURANCE. (bY TELIiUUAPH -PHSSS ASSOCIATION: WELLINGTON, Oct. 1: Mr T. C. Brash, secretary of Ae Dairy Produce Control Board, made te following statement to-day with regivl to marine insurance on dairy product The board and also its overseas deli gation lias for some time been invest! gating the question of marine insuranton dairy proauce with the-view to tfi< possibility of a lower rate of premium being obtained. It has been found that, to secure the best terms it will be. necessary for the board to contract for the whole of the marine insurance on butter and cheese exported, and subject- to certain details being satisfactorily concluded the hoard has now arranged to do this. It is hoped that the contract will operate from the shipments being made by the Orari and Arawa, commencing to load about October 23. Steamers commencing to load prior to this date, viz., the Maimoa, Mamari, Kaikoura, Rotorua and, Port Caroline, will not be included. The contract is to end with the butter and cheese shipned on or before August 31, 1925. Definite advice regarding the r commencement of the contract will be sent to exporters when arrangements are finally completed. The insurance will be done 'through the Ne\y Zealand Marine Underwriters’ Association. Tlie policy will probably be in the name of one member of that association, but the insurance will be divided amongst the members. The rates of the premium will be 7 per cent., and cheese 8s 6d, the risk to commence in the ‘ factory,' with an additional Is per cent, where transhipment is incurred. These rates cover produce by any steamer and any »route .to ports on the east coast of North America, in Great Britain and the Continent of Europe, and het-weeiri and Hamburg, both inclusive. Under the policy produce, is covered against all risks from any cause whatsoever, including war and strike risks, shortage of fuel and malicious damage. While the board has not yet made any contract with the shipping companies aiid produce is being shipped under the contract made by the National Dairy' 'Association, which ends on October 31 next, a good deal of attention has been given to this matter. The shipment of produce made in September is not altogether satisfactory, especially from Auckland, and the board has been urging upon the overseas shipowners’ allotment committee the necessity for prompt dispatch of early shipments. From the shipping company’s point of view the difficulty is that in September and October very little refrigerated cargo than dairy produce is offering for shipment, and it is difficult to secure a full cairgo. Shipping companies express their willingness to sail without a full ship as far as ordinary cargoes concerned, but expect at least a reasonable cargo of refrigerated produce. It may be necessary in future to consider concentrating early shipments at one port with a view' to quicker dispatch at different ports. The position is about as follows: Auckland.—September butter v dl all be shipped by the Rotorua, loading Lorn October 5 to 8, and the Maimoa, loading from October 8 to 11, but the Rotorua will not finally sail from Wellington until October 17. The Port Caroline loading at Auckland on October 17 and sailing from Wellington on November 1, and the Orari, sailing from Auckland on November 12, w’ill lift all butter up to about October 25. The steamers mentioned will also lift all the available cheese. ' . New Plymouth.—The lonic, Maimoa, and Rotorua w’ill clear all butter and cheese up to almost the end of September. and the Port Caroline, Arawa and Orari, all sailing before the middle of November, will clear everything up t« about October 25. Wellington (including Patea and Wanganui).—The lonic and Maimoa w’ill clear up butter and cheese, to September 20, and the Port Caroline, Araw'a and Orari will take everything up to about October 25. Space for November produce fins not yet been allotted, but it is how' being dealt with.
