“OUR MISS GIBBS.”
FINAL PERFORMANCE. The final performance of “Our Miss Gibbs”-was rendered by the Hawera Amateur Operatic Society last evening, when the whole of the artists, without exception, gave splendid interpretations. The performance was thoroughly enjoyed by a well-filled house, and the charitable causes »in which it was in aid—tlie Plunket Society and the hospital will no doubt benefit considerably.
In a short address of thanks at the interval the Mayor (Mr. L. A. Bone) said that the Plunket Society, the Hospital Board, and the public generally were greatly indebted to the members of the Hawera Amateur Operatic Society for so graciously giving their service on behalf of such worthy organisa. tions. Performers and officials generally. were to be congratulated on presenting such magnificent performances. He stressed the need for more help from the public in aid of the Plunket Society, and he suggested that a greater number of the public should become honorary members. The cause was a most deserving one, and for the general good of the community as a whole. Mr. F. Gillanders, chairman of the Hospital Board, tendered thanks on behalf of the board and staff He intimated that the amount that would he received from the_ performance would be devoted to providing adidtional comforts for patients.
The remarks of both speakers were applauded. At the conclusion of.the performance the members of the society, Hospital Board members and staff, and officials and committee of the Plunket Society were entertained to supper by the Mayor and chairman of the Hospital Board at the Golden Minim.
