MEETING OF COMMITTEE
A meeting of the General Committee of the Egmont A. and P. Association was held in the board room on Saturday, when there were present: Messrs E. A. 'Washer (chair), F. Gillanders, J. D. Scott, G. Ford, H. Finlay, H. Wren, J. Thomlinson, A. Hunter, A. E. Death, J. Forbes, A. E. Western, X. Wren,* A. Lankow, H. E. Johnson, D. Crocker, F. Hoskin, F. Mills, junr., and D. S. Richardson. A vote of sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr J. D. Mitchell was carried by members standing in silence. The chairman mentioned! that the deceased gentleman had been a most enthusiastic member of the association, and was one of the widest known breeders of Clydesdale horses in the Dominion. Mr F. S. Pope, for the DirectorGeneral of Agriculture, wrote stating that it had been decided to make an exhibit of stock from Weraroa Farm at the forthcoming Egmont A. and P. Association’s show. They would, of course, realise that it was impossible for the department to exhibit at every show, and therefore Hawera would be missed the following year, when the stock would go to the Stratford Show. —lt was decided to write thanking the department. The Royal Agricultural Society forwarded a circular opposing Mr Howard’s Workers’ Compensation Amendment Bill, and giving reasons why the Bill was unwarranted. —It was decided to forward a copy of the circular to Messrs 0. Hawken-and J. R. Corrigan, M.P.’s. A resolution from the Taranaki Metropolitan Agricultural Society relative to the N.Z. Council of .Agriculture’s circular proposing an annual .revision of lists < of judges was placed before the meeting for support. The resolution stated: “That in the opinion of this committee the principle .of A. and P. societies recommending judges for the official list is wrong, and suggests as an alternative that where breed societies are established they be asked to annually revise their respective official lists and submit them to the N.Z. Council of Agriculture, who shall compile them into book form and circulate them amongst A. arid P. societies. That A. and P. societies be requested to recommend judges only in cases where there are no recognised breed societies.”
The chairman stated that the suggestions embodied in. the Taranaki Society’s resolution had been in operation in Hawera for a considerable time.—lt was decided to support the resolution. A vote of was accorded the Canvassing Committee, Messrs F. Gillanders and J. D. Scott, the chairman remarking that the value of ' special prizes this year was ahead of that of last.
The application of the Farmers’ Coop. for permission to hold a bull fair on the grounds on October 20 was granted; subject to the usual conditions. I
