TAWHITI RAILWAY CROSSING.

With reference to-the Chamber’s letter .regarding the stoppage of road traffic at Tawhiti.. Road crossing while the train was shunting, on August 18, the General Manager of Railways wrote stating that inquiries made show that/the train did not stand over the crossing for more than four minutes on the occasion referred to, and it -would appear that the newspaper report in connection with the matter was exaggerated. As previously advised, it was not possible to avoid blocking the -crossing for a few minutes now and then, but the staff were fully alive to the necessity of keeping such blockages down to a minimum.
