CONVERSATIONS WITH BRITAIN. BY CABLE—TRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT Received Sept. 26, 10.55 a.m. LONDON, Sept. 25. It is learnt authoritatively in London thqt the breakdown in the conversations with Berlin-are not regarded as final. The conversations were of a preliminary character to enable the respective representatives to prepare a full report on the possibilities of drawing up a final Anglo-German commercial treaty. Neither side had authority to pledge its Government to any particular course. Mr. . Fountain, assistant-secretary to the Board of Trade, went to- Berlin last Saturday merely to assist in the British Embassy conversations, which began on Monday and were not expected to last more than three days at the outside. —Reuter. FAILURE OF TREATY NEGOTIATIONS. ATTITUDE TOWARDS LEAGUE. Received Sept. 26. 10.35 a.m. BERLIN, Sept. 25. In view of the breakdown of the Anglo-German commercial treaty negotiations it is considered doubtful whether the Franco-German negotiations Will succeed. The French delegate has departed for home. The German Cabinet is framing conditions on which she is prepared to enter the League of Nations, adopting the attitude that the League cannot do without us and must accept us as a nation free of moral taint, and capable of holding manadates for colonies.” —Sydney Sun Cables.
