FAREWELL TO VISCOUNT AND LADY JELLICOE.

WELLINGTON, Sept. 25.. The Early Settlers’ Association gave a rarewell to tne Governor-General aim Lacly' Jellicoe last night. Mrs. Cornford, aged 91, presented a bouquet, and Thomas Bassett, who arrived in 1840, read an address. Apologies for absence on account of infirmity were made for several: members, including a, centenarian of 105 residing in Nelson, who had landed in 1842.
Viscount Jellicoe acknowledged the greetings with some happy remarks on the work of the. pioneer and a jocose reference to the power of their lungs as shown by their cheering. Professor Wilson expressed a hope that their Excellencies would make a note of the date in September, 1940, when the. early settlers would celebrate their centenary.
