ROYAL DESPATCH CASE. STATEMENT BY MR KNIGHT. MOVEMENTS OF BALLYMENA. BY CABLE—PEESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT SYDNEY, Sept. 23.' It now appears that the hope expressed yesterday that Mr, Knight might reYcke his decision to send Ballymena back without' filling its Randwick engagements is to bear fruit. Mr. Knight stated this afternoon that both F. D. Jones and the jockey McOarten had requested him to reconsider his decision and leave the. horse in Sydney/ to compete at . Randwick in weight-for-age events, and he has decided to fall in' with their request and allow the horse to fill its engagements, which would include the Spring Stakes, the Craven Plate, and the Randwick Plate. Received Sept. 24, 8.50 a.m. SYDNEY, Seot. 24. Mr Knight states that.he intends to bring evidence in the Royal Despatch case before the New Zealand Racing Conference. “It was only when Jones and McCarten assured me,” he says, “that if Ballymena stayed hare to race they would not be there that I agreed to change my plans. Ballymena ran so well on Saturday that naturally I feel he has. a good chance in the coming event.” He pointed out that Reed rode him differently on Saturday from what he did in the Chelmsford Stakes. He was told that instead of taking him to the front to wait till they got into the straight. The result was evident, and he was not forgetting Gloaming’s bad luck in his race. : Asked if Ballymena would fill his engagement in the Melbourne Cup, Mr Knight said it was unlikely. The Cup was a very hard race to win, and Ballymena had a lot of weight to carry. He" wanted to be back in Christchurch in 'the first week in November, and would not like the hoirse to go to Melbourne if he yas not there himself:— A.N.Z.C.A. * NIGGER MINSTREL WELL. . /SYDNEY, Sept. 23. In. his training to-day Nigger Minstrel showed no sign of trouble and throughout he moved with perfect freedom.
