EARTHQUAKES

SHOCKS AT GENOA

PEOPLE PANIC-STRICKEN

BY CABLE- PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT DOME, Sept. 23. Since last night seven severe earthquake shocks have been felt at Genoa.

There were amazing scenes of panic, the populace fleeing to the seashore and the open country. No fatalities have been reported, but there has been serious property damage. The shocks occurred between two o’clock in the afternoon and five o’clock in the morning. During the evening the city was choked with fugitives. The audiences forced their way out of the theatres. The terror spread to the hospitals, where patients strove to gain their freedom.

Many people refuse to enter buildings and are camping in the open. A series of shocks have been reported in the Italian Riviera. So far the damage is not serious, but the shocks are alarming the.people.
